Here you will find more information about the additions and roof:
Overall goal: Build two additions already underway to the point where one continuous roof can be placed on the entire complex. This year and next, we will continue to raise funds to complete the interiors. Here is a satellite picture of the grounds. The clinic and the institute addition behind it:
This project will provide a roof for four structures:
Block A: The main, original 2-story outpatient/clinic circled above with a mixed-shades green roof. This is the main outpatient/inpatient clinic. The roof at the time of construction over 5 years ago was an economical choice, but it came in two different shades, and the trim has developed bubbling. The intent is to sell the roofing to recover some cost.
Block B: The new 5-story structure behind Block B. The roof was applied to save the structure from rain while the other structures were raised. The material will also be sold.
Block C: This wing is half-built, currently 1-story, and will be 2. It will house a canteen (cafeteria) where patients will have a greater variety of food and patients will pay instead of the board being included with their stay. There will be a secure open-air space for patients to stretch and exercise. Offices, laundry, some patient housing will also be included.
Block D: Ground is just now breaking on this site. The clinic is in great need of a safe family visitation center to allow patients to visit family separate from the main patient population. More patient rooms will be built above.
Being a small non-profit, it is a stretch for us to raise enough to build the skeleton of C and D this year, and put the roof on it all. The roof cost is projected to be $8,500-9,000 and the Block C and D structures are estimated at $50,000. We will continue to raise to complete Blocks B-D, and we are enjoying seeing Living Vine benefit already from the finished spaces!
Impact of these new buildings: The new structures of 2022-2024 are bringing Living Vine into a new era of greater impact:
The bed count will rise from 55 to well over 100.
Separate wards will become available for female, male, minor, elderly and higher-risk patient groups. (The clinic is already thankful to be able to fully separate the male and female populations.)
The Institute will graduate and employ their first class of 14 students February '24.
An accredited three-year training program will provide a more comprehensive education for those seeking a career in mental healthcare.
A more highly educated staff will allow Director Hedwick Fonbeh to transition into an administrative role over the Clinic and the Institute in 2-3 years. It is critical to the efficiency and longevity of the organization to move him from a man of all hats to one of an overseer of well-trained leaders.
